Pakistan Wins the Plate Final

Pakistan Over 50s team has finished its World Cup campaign with five consecutive victories and a fifth position in the Mega Event.

In the Plate Final, Pakistan came across Zimbabwe at Rylands Cricket Club, Cape Town South Africa. Pakistan won the battle by six wickets.

Pakistan Over 50s team after winning the toss opted to bowl first. Gavin Parker fell for a duck in the very first over bowled by Muhmmad Jawed. Andrew Walton and Stuart Carlisle then offered some resistance with a 77-run stand for the second wicket. Afterward, wickets continued to tumble from time to time and Zimbabwe ended their innings on 190-9. Stuart Carlisle remained the highest scorer with his inning of 47 runs from 70 balls. Muhammad Jaffar Qureshi & Muhammad Hafeez delivered top-notch spells of 3-31 and 3-32 respectively.

In reply, Mohammad Azher Khan and Asif Hamayun gave a solid start to Pakistan with their 123 runs opening stand. The middle order winded up the chase for Men in Green and ultimately they won the encounter by six wickets. Mohammad Azher Khan played a magnificent knock of 77 runs on 72 balls which included 8 fours and 1 maximum. Asif Hamayun was impressive as well with his inning of 60(68), a knock which was composed of 3 fours and 2 sixes. Michael Van Staden, Andrew Walton & Darshan Vaghmaria picked one wicket each. Mohammad Azher Khan was declared ‘Player of the Match’.

Pakistan Over 50s side managed to cling onto six victories, lost one contest and their match against UAE got abandoned due to rain. Resultantly, the team despite their brilliant performances throughout the competition was unfortunately unable to grab a spot in Semifinals.

In other Position Finals, Sri Lanka defeated India by 52 runs. New Zealand edged past USA by one wicket. West Indies won its contest against Wales by one wicket. Australia outplayed Namibia by a mammoth margin of 175 runs. Canada defeated UAE by seven wickets.
