Pakistan defeat Rest of the World team by 43 runs
Brisbane: Pakistan Veterans registered a comfortable win against the Rest of the World side on the back of an immaculate century from Syed M Ghaffar Kazmi.
The Men in Green have now won two of the three encounters they have played in the ongoing Over 60s World Cup.
The Rest of the World team after winning the toss opted to field first. Pakistan Veterans initially had a shaky start as two wickets fell when the team score was 17 runs. Syed M Ghaffar Kazmi then joined hands with Muhammad Ashraf Pakhali in the centre and the duo put on a commanding show, adding 169 runs for the third wicket. Syed Ghaffar in particular was brutal as he played a memorable knock of 120 runs off 106 balls. Muhammad Ashraf Pakhali also appeared to be in sublime touch in his innings of 79 runs. Pakistan finished its innings on an impressive 276 in their allotted 45 overs. Shahid Iqbal and Arnold Manders grabbed two wickets each.
In response the Rest of the World team made exhausting efforts in their chase but the target proved to be too demanding. In the end they lost by 43 runs. Kevin Grant played a gritty knock of 77 runs. For Pakistan, Basharat Ali Baber who is also the leading wicket-taker in the tournament thus far again chipped in with an impressive figure of 4-36. Syed Ghaffar Kazmi was declared ‘Player of the Match’ for his valiant knock.
Pakistan Over 60s team will play its fourth game against USA on Friday, 9 September.
In other games today, in Pool-A, Australia won its third consecutive game defeating India by 91 runs. Sri Lanka won against Zimbabwe by five wickets. Wales fell short against Canada by a tantalizingly close margin of 1 run.
In Pool-B, South Africa sealed the deal against West Indies, winning by 50 runs. New Zealand won its encounter against USA by 9 wickets.
