Over 60s World Cup

Pakistan prepare to play West Indies

After the round one group matches to be played on Sep 3 were abandoned as rain hit the coastal city of Brisbane, Pakistan will now face off against the West Indies for their second round group game on Monday September 5.

Pakistan were scheduled to face South Africa in their first-round match on Friday which like other first-round matches was abandoned as the ground had pools of water around the pitch square. This match between Pakistan and South Africa will now be played on Sep 10.

Earlier — before the revised scheduled was announced by the organizers after meeting the managements of all teams – the Pakistani captain Fawad Ijaz Khan had said spoken from Brisbane, the host city. As he had stood in front of the covered pitches and surrounded by the small pools of water he had expressed his sadness at the rain. “Our match today against the South Africans today had to be abandoned and chances don’t look too bright of our game against West Indies starting on time (9.30am) tomorrow Sunday September 4.”

He had added that he’d had a word with the groundsman and considering the outfield will take time to dry, the match may start in the afternoon. “It might be limited to 20-25 overs per side,” Fawad had predicted, before the organizers decided to shift the match forward by a day.

The Pakistanis will be buoyed up by the memory of playing the final of the Over50 World Cup in Australia four years ago losing by only 3 runs. The over60s team has trained hard for the previous six weeks and everyone in the squad is fit and excited to open their campaign against the West Indies on Monday.
