Pakistan beat India by 5 Wickets in Over 50s World Cup
Pakistan has defeated the arch-rivals India by five wickets in Round 6 match of the Over 50s Cricket World Cup being played in Cape Town South Africa.
India after winning the toss elected to Bat first. The Pakistani bowlers depicted a high caliber of disciplined bowling forcing the Indian team to be speculative with their batting approach. Resultantly, India managed 175-7 in their allotted 45 overs. Iqbal Khan and Samarth Hegde scored 40(79) and 35(47) respectively. Muhammad Hafeez picked 2 wickets for 18 runs, whereas Jaffar Qureshi grabbed 2 scalps for 31 runs.
Pakistan in reply, lost the first wicket in the very first over as Mohammad Azher Khan fell early in the process. Reasonable contributions from the middle order batters took Pakistan to five wickets Victory in the 42nd over. Muhammad Jawed, Muhammad Hafeez and Syed Mazhar Hussain chipped in with their knocks 45(82), 37(53) and 30(56) respectively. For the Indian side Pawan Malik, Krish Subramanian, Dinesh Sharma, Nishit Sudakar & Tushar Jhaveri took one wicket each. Muhammad Hafeez won ‘Player of the Match’ award for his impressive all-round performance.
Pakistan Over 50s team despite winning its last two matches against England and India are dependent upon the results of other matches to go their way in order to see themselves through into the Semi-final as rain played the spoilsport in their conquest against UAE. Pakistan will be playing its last group game against Namibia on 15th March 2023.
In other matches of the Over 50s World Cup, from Pool A: Australia defeated West Indies by five wickets. Zimbabwe won their encounter against Canada by 78 runs. USA outpowered the New Zealand side beating them by 32 runs.
In Pool B: England edged past South Africa by three wickets. Wales won their contest against UAE by five wickets.
