The second edition of the Over 50s World Cup has come to a conclusion with England standing as the reigning Champion in the competition. Pakistan Over 50s team despite its fairly identical campaign became the Plate Winners (5th Position) in the Mega Event.

Pakistan Over 50s team kicked off its movement by securing a comprehensive seven wickets victory against Wales. Dominated their second clash against South Africa for the most part but a blistering onslaught from Saleem Mukkudem and Mario Solomons in the last few overs resulted in a closely contested loss by five wickets. The Men in Green’s campaign received a jolt when their game against UAE got washed out. Precisely the only match in the entire World Cup composed of 56 matches to be abandoned by Rain. A game that badly dented Pakistan’s pursuit of grabbing a spot in the Semifinals lineup. But it was never enough to dwindle the spirits of the Green Team. Pakistan Over 50s team defeated England in their next clash by 40 runs before overrunning India on the very next day by five wickets. The National side outclassed Namibia in their last group-stage game by ten wickets. Pakistani team continued on with its excellent run in the Playoffs and Finals beating Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe by 78 runs and six wickets respectively and resultantly stood at the 5th position in the Over 50s World Cup.

Both Pakistan and England lost only one match throughout the tournament with the former remaining the only side to hold onto their battle against the entitled Champions England. In fact, Pakistan Over 50s team had a higher Net Run Rate of 1.359 as compared to England’s 1.040 at the end of the Mega Event, a representative of their commanding victories.

All and all, Pakistan successfully carried on with its eminent showcase on the International stage as the side depicted the most impressive performances among all 14 competing Countries and would be looking to extend its dominant run in the upcoming Inaugural Over 40s World Cup scheduled to be held in Karachi from 23rd September to 8th October 2023.
