Pakistan Overpowers Sri Lanka by 78 Runs in Over 50s World Cup
Pakistan Over 50s continued with their momentum and secured a fourth consecutive win in the Over 50s World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka in the playoff played at Durbanville Cricket Club, South Africa.
Sri Lanka after winning the toss invited Pakistan to Bat first. Pakistan Over 50s team managed to assemble 190-8 in their allotted 45 overs. Muhammad Hafeez remained the top scorer with his compact knock of 67 runs of 56 balls which included 3 fours and 1 six. Muhammad Jawed chipped in with 33(57). Chaminda Rajapakse picked 3 wickets for 25 runs. Whereas, Duminda De Silva & Suwanji Madanayake took two wickets each.
In reply, Sri Lanka remained distorted throughout their chase ultimately getting bundled out on 112 runs in the 39th Over. Muhammad Jaffar Qureshi who is currently the highest wicket-taker in the tournament delivered another splendid spell of 3-19. Naeem Tayyab was equally impressive with his 3 wickets for 32 runs. Muhammad Hafeez was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his superb batting performance.
In the Semifinals of Over 50s World Cup, South Africa defeated New Zealand by Six wickets. Whereas, England overcame USA by four wickets. South Africa and England will be clashing in the Final on 20th March at the Newlands Cricket Ground. Whereas, Pakistan will be taking on Zimbabwe for the 5th Position match on 19th March 2023.
In other playoffs played, Zimbabwe defeated India by 18 runs. West Indies won their match against UAE by 48 runs. Wales beat Australia by five wickets. Canada defeated Namibia by nine wickets.
